The Gerrie Hammond Memorial Award of Promise

Sponsored by Manitoba Lotteries

This award will be made to a young woman, enrolled in a school within the Winnipeg City limits, who will be graduating from Grade 12 in 2013.  She has made a significant contribution to her school and community, has demonstrated scholastic achievement and shows promise of becoming a Woman of Distinction. She should be a role model for other young women.

The award recipient receives a $2,000 scholarship on behalf of Manitoba Lotteries. Manitoba Lotteries Foundation has set up and maintained this award and scholarship in memory of their Chair, Mrs Gerrie Hammond. (Scholarship is processed once proof of registration in a recognized post secondary institution is received).

The Prairie Award of Promise

Sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance

This award will be made to a young woman, enrolled in a school outside the Winnipeg City limits, who will graduate from Grade 12 in 2013.  She has made a significant contribution to her school and community, has demonstrated scholastic achievement and shows promise of becoming a Woman of Distinction. She should be a role model for other young women.

Arts

This award recognizes a woman's outstanding achievements in the expression, performance, development, preservation or patronage of the visual, literary, performing or creative arts.  She may express herself artistically, encourage others to find their own creative expression and/or promote the value of the arts as integral to the life of the community.

Circle of Inspiration

Sponsored by Manitoba Lotteries

This award recognizes a formal or informal group or organization of 2 or more outstanding women whose collaboration has resulted in significant achievements or valuable contributions to the advancement or well-being of their community or communities.  Collectively, they have a shared vision and have worked together at the grassroots level addressing issues of poverty, at-risk groups or populations, or ensuring access to programs and services that will enhance and improve the lives of individuals in their communities.

Culture

This award recognizes an outstanding woman who shares and honours the vision, spirit and traditions of her culture.  She makes significant contributions in the protection, preservation, awareness and dissemination of her traditions, language, ceremonies, practices, beliefs and history for present and future generations.

Education, Training and Mentorship

This award recognizes an outstanding woman who is an education or mentor in many avenues of life and inspires a passion for person growth, development and life-long learning through the education system, employee training and development, community education or alternative programs.  She may be developing innovative programs and/or building a strong rapport with learners, parents, colleagues or the community at large to foster learning in a broader sense.

This award recognizes an outstanding woman who is acknowledged in her field for her professional leadership.  She is committed to excellence, creates and inspires a positive work environment and influences and motivates positive change in her profession, trade or workplace whether is is in Business, Government, Union or the Not-For-Profit Sector.

This award is for outstanding achievement in the communication of ideas or shaping public opinion through the media, advertising, public relations or marketing endeavours.  This woman has raised awareness and used her talents and knowledge to make change or to have an impact on the community.

Science, Technology and The Environment

This award recognizes contributions of an outstanding woman in a science-related field including pure and applied sciences, engineering and life sciences, medicine, technology, agriculture or the environment.  She is dedicated to the advancement of technological, scientific or industrial discovery through either research or application, or to the preservation, protection or improvement of the environment.

Voluntarism, Advocacy and Community Enhancement

This award recognizes an outstanding woman who inspires, mentors and advocates on behalf of others through involvement in voluntary community programs or organizations, or philanthropic endeavours.  She has show her dedication by creating, participating in or adapting programs to meet community needs in the areas of social services, community building and human rights.

This award recognizes an outstanding woman who enriches her community by fostering and/or promoting better living standards.  She promotes healthier lifestyles through participation and/or leadership in fitness, well-being, sports, recreation, active hobbies or healthy living.

Young Woman of Distinction

This award recognizes an outstanding young woman between the ages of 18 and 29, who is respected and admired for her leadership, achievements and contributions to her school, workplace and/or community and is a positive influence on her peers.  She has shown perseverance, maturity, innovation and compassion and is "making her mark".
