The Gerrie Hammond Memorial Award of Promise
This award will be made to a young woman, enrolled in a school within the Winnipeg City limits, who will be graduating from Grade 12 in 2010. She has made a significant contribution to her school and community, has demonstrated scholastic achievement and shows promise of becoming a Woman of Distinction. She should be a role model for other young women.
The award recipient receives a $2,000.00 scholarship on behalf of the Manitoba
Lotteries Corporation. Manitoba Lotteries Foundation has set up and maintained
this award and scholarship in memory of their Chair, Mrs Gerrie Hammond. (Scholarship
is processed once proof of registration in a recognized post secondary institution
is received.)
The Prairie Award of Promise - NEW FOR 2010!
This award will be made to a young woman, enrolled in a school outside the Winnipeg City limits, who will graduating from Grade 12 in 2010. She has made a significant contribution to her school and community, has demonstrated scholastic achievement and shows promise of becoming a Woman of Distinction. She should be a role model for other young women.
The award recipient receives a $2,000.00 scholarship on behalf of the MediaBank (Scholarship
is processed once proof of registration in a recognized post secondary institution
is received.)
Sport and Recreation
For significant contributions of a woman who has served as an inspiration to others through her example and her accomplishments in the field of sports, physical fitness, recreation or general fitness.
Arts and Culture
For outstanding achievement in the expression, development, preservation, patronage and/or promotion of the performing, visual, literary or multi-media arts and/or cultural heritage.
Business and the Professions
For leadership and consistent commitment to excellence. She leverages her achievements and management skills to facilitate change and create opportunities in the for-profit and/or not-for-profit sectors. She demonstrates a respect for and engagement with her community, clients/stakeholders and colleagues.
Community Voluntarism
For outstanding voluntary commitment to and involvement in social services, programs and/or organizations within the community.
Creative Communications
For outstanding achievements in the communication of ideas or shaping of public opinion in fields such as the media, advertising and public relations.
Education and Training
For outstanding achievement in practice, development and/or research in the educational system, employee development, community education or alternative programs.
Health and Wellness
For outstanding achievement in the promotion, education and/or involvement in the physical, emotional, and/or spiritual health and well being of others.
Research and Innovation
For outstanding achievement in research and development and/or application of a new discovery in science, technology, or the environment.
Young Woman of Distinction
She is a young woman (19 - 29) who is respected and admired for her achievements and commitment to her school, workplace and/or community and is a positive influence on her peers.
