Coronavirus Prevention in our Child-care Centres

View mandated closure information in response to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Important notice regarding school closures

Update as of June 15, 2020

Thank you to everyone for your continued support as we have navigated the last few months. These times have been uncertain and challenging. The rate of change has been unprecedented, and we know everyone has been struggling to make sense of what COVID-19 means, and will mean, to our lives.

The mandatory shutdown of services has been incredibly hard on everyone, both mentally and physically. Our usual routines were completely disrupted and has added to people’s stress. Understandably, you may have many questions regarding when we can reopen – we do too! We continue to follow provincial guidelines and the advice of public health officials.

In light of the June 11 draft Phase 3 announcement from the Province, there are many new, unanswered questions. As always, we are working to do what is best for our families, and we are preparing ways to ensure our environments are safe, clean and ready for when your little one is able to return. We will also ensure staff are well trained in all new policies and protocols prior to resuming full service.

We remain committed to you and your family, and are here to serve you as best as we can. We will continue to reach out to you in the coming weeks to explain more about what this draft Phase 3 announcement from the Province means for you.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please let me know.

Susan Emerson
Vice President, Community Operations

Update as of March 23, 2020

  • Three of our child-care centres are open for children of essential service providers. Individuals accessing childcare will be charged child-care fees on our regular weekly billing schedule.
  • The remainder of our child-care centres remain closed at this time. Those child-care accounts have been placed on hold and no payments will be withdrawn until we resume normal business operations.

Update as of March 20, 2020

The Government of Manitoba’s announcement this morning regarding childcare was communicated to the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg just prior to the Province’s announcement going live. Please understand that this is emerging news. We are making plans with the Province to meet child-care demands for essential service families – as well as potentially your family – within the Province’s new limitations; however, not all of the details have yet been worked out.

Rest assured, we will let you know further details as soon as we receive them.

Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Kent Paterson
President & CEO

Update as of March 18, 2020

  • Reminder: The Province of Manitoba has directed us to close our child-care centres at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 20. All child-care accounts will be put on hold and no payments will be withdrawn until we resume normal operations. We do not have a re-open date at this time, as that decision will be dictated by the Province of Manitoba.

At the Y, we’ve never met a kid whose potential we couldn’t see. It’s our belief in developing a child’s potential that has led us to our position today as Manitoba’s largest provider of child care services.

Our Child Care programs focus on helping children develop seven core values: respect, responsibility, inclusiveness, caring, health, honesty and equality.

We believe that it’s crucial for children to be active. Our Child Care centres incorporate physical activities into our programming, including: outdoor activities, gym time and a swimming program for the preschool children.
