NEW PILOT PROGRAMS COMING TO THE DOWNTOWN Y

In order to meet the needs of the community, we are continually looking for ways to improve and expand our programming and engage in new partnerships. This summer, the Downtown Y will be launching new pilot programs. As we look to evolve and re-assess our programming, members and participants will be asked to provide feedback to help gauge program success and guide future pilot projects & programming offered through the Downtown Y.

Pilot Programs:

Drop-in 3×3 Basketball
3×3 is simple and fast paced way to improve your skill as a basketball player. The FIBA/Olympic rules are very simple and designed to make it a fast, spectacular and exciting game. Timed games, scorekeeping, with no breaks after scoring. Teams are composed of at a minimum three players, and at a maximum, four players. The teams will be decided and rotated each session to meet new teammates and help keep the games competitive throughout the summer. Players can expect to play multiple games a night.

Ages: 13-17
Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-8:00 pm July 5 – Sept 1
Location: Downtown Y – 301 Vaughan Street

Intro to Pickleball
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic wiffle ball. It is a game that is appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels. Learn rules and practice skills followed by game play. Attend one or multiple sessions.

Ages: 12+
Dates: Mondays 8 am- 10 am July 4 – August 29 (no program on August 1)
Location: Downtown Y – 301 Vaughan Street

Walk this Way! Older adults walking program
Join Active Aging in Manitoba for a weekly 30-minute walk, followed by coffee and conversation. Reap the physical and mental health benefits of walking with other older adults from your community. A focus on balance and functional exercises to help you carry out your daily living tasks will be included, along with some fun games. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking!

Dates: Wednesdays: July 6 – August 24;
Time: 9:30-10 am walk, followed by coffee and conversation
Location: Meet in the lobby of the Downtown YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg (301 Vaughan). Walking program will take place in Portage Place and inside the Y.
No pre-registration required. Meet in Downtown Y lobby.
