Enhancing the Camp Experience for Kids
It is a privilege to chair the YMCA-YWCA Camps for Kids Campaign to enhance the capacity and facilities of one of Canada’s great summer camps Camp Stephens on Lake of the Woods and the Y’s newly acquired former Salvation Army Camp (Camp Douglas) that is just a forty-five minute drive northwest of Winnipeg.
The unique combination of these two camps will now permit the Y to extend the range and depth of both its residential and day camp programs to provide quality experiences that will enhance the lives of more Manitoba children. By joining our campaign you can be a part of this tangible and important initiative that will contribute to the lives of kids, families and our community.
Many of you have a first or second-hand understanding of the worthwhile and memorable experiences, principles and life skills children gain from a stay at a well-run camp staffed by caring and professional Y staff. It has a positive impact that lasts a lifetime.
A residential camp like Camp Stephens often represents the first time children spend any time away from home and family, providing an opportunity for them to develop independence and cooperation in a fun, adventurous but safe environment. Older kids learn leadership and interpersonal skills that translate into the qualities valued in our most respected citizens. The new Camp Douglas will now become a part of the great Y camp tradition providing additional opportunities for kids to experience the outdoors and a natural environment often for the first time in their lives.
Your generous support to this Y Camps for Kids Campaign will help extend the benefits of camp life for Manitoba children well into the future. Please join with me and others in supporting this important campaign for Manitoba kids.
