Alicia Laufer was rated one of the top three notary public in Winnipeg in 2018 and has nothing but 5-star Google reviews for her business, Laufer Notary. None of this would have been possible, she says, without the Y’s Self-Employment Program.
“All of this, everything that is happening with my business, is because of you (the Y)”, said Alicia. “I learned everything step-by-step; I learned everything I need to run my business.”
Alicia came to Winnipeg from Argentina where she was a lawyer. After validating her degree in Canada and working as an associate in different areas of law, she discovered that there was a niche market to create her own business. She approached the government for guidance and was referred to our Self-Employment Program (SEP). From the first information session, Alicia knew this was program was for her.
“When I learned about the program, it was so complete, with a lot of different classes and I said to myself “oh my gosh, this is what I am looking for!”. SEP consists of full-time classes, working with a business coach to complete a comprehensive business plan and launching and operating a business. Alicia was accepted into the program and began classes in September 2017. By January 2018, her business officially launched and life as an entrepreneur took off.
“Day after day, I think about you all and remember what you taught me, and I am just so, so grateful.”
