YMCA World Peace Week

Nov 21 - 28, 2009

Imagine for a moment that our world was at peace. What would peace look like? How would your life change? The YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg marks YMCA World Peace by dedicating a week in November to engaging people of all ages in exploring peace and integrating peace building activities into in their personal lives, their community and overseas.

As a values-based charity, a large part of YMCA World Peace Week focuses on teaching children and youth about the dimensions of peace such as caring, cooperation, inclusion, respect, community, equality and justice.

Peace starts at home. By incorporating these dimensions into our daily lives, people become aware of how they can change their own community and also others. Parents and educators are encouraged to download the 2009 Activity Guide or visit www.ymca.ca for activities and games that demonstrate these dimensions in meaningful ways.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2009 YMCA PEACE MEDAL AND YOUTH PEACE MEDAL
Each year, the Winnipeg YMCA-YWCA asks for your help in identifying individuals or groups who contribute to the peacemaking process in our community.  We believe it is important to recognize and celebrate those people who choose to work for peace and the promotion of non-violence, tolerance and respect in our diverse society, thereby making a distinct and describable difference. Download a Nomination form and information on how to nominate an individual or group.
