On Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg will unveil a plaque recognizing the generous donation of the Thomas Sill Foundation to the recent expansion of the Elmwood-Kildonan Branch.

Thomas Sill, CA, was born in Elmwood, lived his entire life in Winnipeg and practiced as a chartered accountant for many years. As an astute investor he built a fortune that became the basis of The Thomas Sill Foundation, Inc. The Foundation donated $100,000 to the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg to assist with the Elmwood-Kildonan expansion. “We are very pleased that the Foundation agreed to donate to our capital expansion,” said Dal McCloy, Chair of the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg Fund Raising Committee. “Both of our organizations have a deep and mutual commitment to strong children and youth, strong families and strong communities and the common goal of bettering lives and creating a safer, healthier more vibrant community for everyone who lives here.”

Construction on the 12,000 square foot addition which includes a new fitness centre, multi purpose spaces, new lobby and special change room was completed in 2007.

The YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg is a charitable organization whose mission is to foster the growth and development of people and communities in spirit, mind and body. Since 1879, the organization has provided thousands of children and adults with programs and services dedicated to personal growth and community development.
